Joan Sisco enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1974 and was Honorably discharged in 1977 at the rank of Sergeant.  Joan came to Arizona in 1977,  she devoted 15 years to property renovation and 10 years to commercial real estate until founding Veterans First, Ltd. a non profit organization in 2002

Joan has served as CEO of Veterans First since establishing the organization in 2002. Mission: Stabilize lives and prevent homelessness among our Women Veterans while providing referrals and resources to all veterans, their families and caregivers. Establishes programs and services for Women Veterans, Single Parent Families, Veteran Children and Senior Veterans.

Joan served two terms as a Commissioner on the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services Advisory Commission. Has served on the Arizona Veterans Task Force for Governor Napolitano, AZ Veteran Service Organization Commanders Task Force, City of Phoenix Military Veterans Commission, National Association of State Women Veteran Coordinators, Southwest Asia Veterans Memorial Commission. Currently serving on VA Mental Health Advisory Council, VA Veterans Service Organizations Advisory Council,  VA Veteran and Family Advisory Council, Arizona Department of Veterans Service Women Veteran Advisory Council,  VA Center for Women Veterans Community Partner,  Honor House Member, Board of Directors. She serves as a consultant for and speaker on Women Veterans Issues to Veteran and Community Organizations and companies.

She is a Member of American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, American Legion Honor Society of Women Legionnaires, Women Marine Association, Marine Corps League, Military Women Across the Nation, Business Professional Women (BPW)  International Association of Women, Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society. Joan was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Class of 2009.
